I COMPARED CHERRY AUDIOS VERSION WITH THE SAMPLED ELKA FROM UVI AND IN THE FAMOUS JARRE LASER HARP PRESET THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I HEARD WAS IN THE HIGHEST OCTAVES THE CHERRY AUDIO VERSION LACKED ATTACK OR BITE WHILE THE UVI VERSION HAD A NICE BITE OR ATTACK THAT MADE IT SOUND MORE REALISTIC ...
Great changes you've made to the Polysix but I would lose the King Gismo logo. The Polysix has excellent styling, and that just spoils it .
Total respect for smith and fam .legend
found something better than taping the bubble wrap -- movers stretch wrap, its amazing and hold without tape, preserving the bubble wrap and quicker than taping ... the small green stretch wrap from home depot works well
Gotta have the Funk, thanks Syntaur, I'm both your fans !!!
nice dude, good interview. i love ewf, thanks guys!
MicroMoog is so flexible. The inverted modulation amounts help a single oscillator synth sound much larger.
The Micromoog is such a nice and versatile synth.
Very interesting 😊
So much timbre
No original members is kinda weird. Thats like having Paul mccartney appoint 3 new members in 1970 and call it beatles until he dies and then one of the others appoint a new guy.
Our keyboard player had a MK II. I played an EKO violin bass. The F major in HOTRS is a second inversion F7; it took me years to work that out, but Alan Price used it. The final chord is Am9.
I thought this would be a Micromoog app for Android OS malfunctioning.
8:58 LOL One time I was looking at some pictures with my mom and there was a picture where I was doing something and making that face, and I said, "What's this about? I'm sticking my tongue out like a crazy person!" and she looked at me a little funny and said, "Honey you always do that when you're working on something." I identify a little too well with the vibe of this video. Sometimes the littlest detail gets my attention in a way where I'm putting things in CAD just to get the measurements right and spending a week on something really inconsequential, and sometimes I'm like WTF let's go we can halfass this a little. 😀
11:33 This is why I have a $75 drill press in my kitchen, because a cordless driver can do almost anything ... except make straight holes.
There should be a Pirates of Silicon Valley type mini-series, except it's about Dave Rossum & Dave Smith. And I'm pretty sure Dave Smith is gonna have to be the bad guy. Dave Rossum has never just sat down and gone off about his business ventures with Dave Smith, but from the interviews I've seen in the past several years it sounds like Dave Rossum designed the whole analog synth side of the Prophet 5, and E-Mu invented the polyphonic keyboard it was using that multiplexed everything with a Z80, and Dave Smith only made the patch memory? It's funny because there's an Anythony Maranelli video where he's at the Rosen synth repair place, and he mentioned that he repaired one of Dave Smith's personal Prophet 5s, and Dave Smith didn't remember how the circuit worked. I'll bet Dave Rossum remembers the circuit LOL. Then Dave Smith didn't want to pay the $100 royalty for each Prophet to E-Mu, so he just stopped, and almost put E-Mu out of business? And the reason the Rev3 switched filters was mostly because they were finally getting sued by E-Mu so they figured they should probably change it? That's me speculating. There's just so many people who must feel really insulted that Dave Smith gets credit for their years of work, and Dave Rossum is near the top of that list. And the engineers at Roland who invented DCB/MIDI must've felt great when they handed Dave Smith a grammy for inventing MIDI LOL.
We are wrapping up Synth Wizards episode 14, that dives into exactly this. The two Daves indeed worked together on the P5 design, and were friends - there was no suing going on. They had different areas of specialty, and the Prophet 5 was the wonderful result of their collaboration.
7:28 I like the part where there's a Volca Keys box in the background. Not as much I like the visualization of a flip-flop triggering. Even on psychedelics I wouldn't have come up with that. I also like that there's random funky montage music. It's depressing (1) how few synth channels include music at all, and (2) how half-assed and boring the music is when it is included. Alex Ball and Mr. Pilz are probably my favorites because they're talented and actually make music along with their videos, but those guys aren't making funky montages of going outside doing things. I'm inspired to recycle now. But I don't have any old syth cases lying around, so I guess I'll stick with catalytic converters.
I was thinking of getting an SQ-80 only for use as a MIDI controller with that polyphonic aftertouch. I’ve changed my mind upon getting a Hydrasynth Explorer which bolsters both that aftertouch and a successor to the SW-80’s synthesis functionality. Syntaur, I don’t recall if I’ve already asked you about this subject, so I’ll pretend that I didn’t. Well you were comparing this model with the Roland synthesizer that has channel aftertouch, I spotted another Roland synthesizer in the background, the JX-8p. I’ve got one of those myself, and there is no response from the square wave generator in DCO. It hasn’t worked at least since 2008, before it came into my possession. Any explanation why that might just happen would be appreciated. I’m prepared for the eventuality that I might need a replacement chip to get the thing up and going again, but I would need the schematics so I can get it printed or something.
I have that music rest. ❤
It's such a long project - but I really enjoy following the series... and it's great to get to some results finally!
Lately i have been studying 8 bit sample players on eproms, like those early 80's heavy hudge drum machines we all luuuv, got a simmons blower (blowed but it's just V-), an sds9/mtx9 (i want to reproce the first three track and make some kind of drum machine using u-law samples on eproms with analog flt annd env, sounds crazy but once you start to study the topic,. it's not that crazy of a task) and a korg ddd1 all these for the study. And thus, i'm full of miami vice trucoise these days... Oh, and i had to say this btw, i just met a guy in my small town in the middle part of empty france tht has a mirage he wants to sell (or trade?) i think i'm a get me my first ensoniq unit, and once i'm done with sound on eproms, i might be ready for undertanding how the mirage worx... Oh and while i'm at it; my opinion but the sds 9 's kick is muck cooler than the l;yndrums regarding settings for click and thump (lvl and pitch for each), but i was shure the sound was comming out of an eprom like on a drumtraks or linndrum or dmx (with simmons the 4 users of u_law for eprom 8 bit sample compading), WELL NO that damn heavy hittin' kick onb the simmons sds_9 is analog, there's a circuit forthe thump and another part for the clic... power needs regulations though, i like unpredictability but there are reasonable limits lol...
Love this lineup, removing the bongos, the other percussion and the sax was the best thing they've done since the early 1980s. And Raum is ridiculously good. As is Thorsten's album CARGO - give it a listen. The sequencing stands alongside the greats like Schulze and Franke. Top notch stuff.
Beautiful instrument..., but the video is a bit dull... and, as usual with most of the surviving CS80s, it sounds slightly out of tune, probably some circuits are damaged beyond repair.
i loved this interview thank you for recording it
Heh…i think the exact same key broke yesterday for me. The middle ”F”.
Sorry not interested, I have most of those synthesizers in my own living room. Especially that Prophet 10. We used to have an act back in the 80s where we destroyed a P10 on stage after every show... So I got a lot of spares.
Keep going to what you're doing for as long as possible. I love you!!!
Today is the second anniversary of Dave Smith's death. All synth lovers will never forget the PROPHET of the synthesizers...
Great and sometimes funny interview, introduces us to musicians of TD continuing Edgar's dream . I was lucky to see TD at a concert in Vienna (1997) in the old lineup and recently in Stuttgart (2023). It's completely different music, new musicians and each of them brings their own style and sound, but the dream that unites them together remains. Congratulations! ✌️
I saw them in Toronto and Chicago last year. Fantastic shows!
So wish I lived close enough to book this 😀

Very nice crew and sounds 🥰 Stratosfear is in my ears since I was a baby, unable to be insensitive on this shooting.
I was in a band in London in the late ‘60’s and our keyboard player had a Continental. The chrome “z” stand it was on used to bounce when he played standing up and one night it nearly fell over when he was giving it some wellie.
Good to hear some love for the ESX-1
gähn! And: This is NOT TD!
I love the Mirage, I used one on a studio demo in 1986. This is a true classic sampler. Inner City used it extensively. Glad to see the Mirage is getting the recognition it deserves. Ps, the Memorymoog probably wouldn't stay in tune that long. Lol.
Awesome mini-documentary! I really wish there could be more TD documentaries
Are Capricorns welcome?
Wow! Great video!!
These guys put on an amazing live show. And their latest release, Raum, is one of the best synth albums in recent years. Check it out!
Their best album in many years
It’s funny that Hoshiko didn’t realize what she was getting into and now it’s been a 13 years+ gig. Not bad for a temp “translator.”
Edgar knew what he was doing , he specifically hired her , a very positive person
@@mario22021 Edgar told me that Hoshiko was the most amazing musician he had ever met
I was at this concert in Dallas. It was a wonderful night under the open skies. Got to meet up with Sam as well. Nice fellow. Good job on the interview and post production work.
Um, that was a strange journey back to another time. Syntaur is awesome!
Just wonderful to hear from Tangerine Dream again. Thank you for the video!
Best lineup in years
They were and are still the gold standard! Right up there with Jean Michel Jarre, Klaus Schulze, Isao Tomita and of course Kraftwerk.
Nice video. Tangerine Dream is still good. But something is not quite right when Edgar is not with us. But maybe it's just me...
Their latest album (Raum) is one of their best of all. They have access to all of Edgars work, like midi, (cubase) project files and everything, and they use them, so he is a little bit still with us ;)
@@simcax6087 + their sessions use the TD rules regarding scales and sequencing that Edgar came up with.
Love it! Long live Tangerine Dream!
